(These recommendations have been approved and passed by resolution by the Santa Maria City Council)

The following Recommendations include the jurisdictions of the City of Santa Maria, the City of Guadalupe and the County of Santa Barbara, to be referred to as the “Community.”

1. The Policy Panel recommends that the Community support the Coalition’s efforts by passing a resolution to reduce and prevent youth access to alcohol through media campaigns and policy changes.

2. The Policy Panel recommends that organizations administering or offering youth programs adopt policies to insure that all youth parties and activities are alcohol-free.

3. The Policy Panel recommends that the Community support mandatory Responsible Beverage Service training for all one-day licensees.

4. The Policy Panel recommends that retailers come into compliance with state signage laws and post all required Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control signs.

5. The Policy Panel recommends that news media publish the names of individuals and retailers who furnish alcohol to minors and adults who provide alcohol to minors.

6. The Policy Panel recommends that the Community provide venues available for safe, alcohol-free, after- school and weekend activities for youth. The Panel also recommends that these activities receive media advocacy.

7. The Policy Panel recommends that the Community and the Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control provide adequate resources to law enforcement to respond to youth alcohol violations and to enforce youth alcohol laws.

8. The Policy Panel recommends that the Community learn about Asset Development and environmental youth advocacy, that we support and encourage our youth, and that we view our youth as assets.
